Elder Law FAQ | Estate Lawyer Cary

Adding life care or elder care planning into your original estate plan can help to provide ongoing support and guidance to older adults and their families. This can also offer support to help families respond to the changing challenges of aging, chronic illness and disability.
The goal of elder care planning is to promote and maintain the health, safety, well-being and quality of life of the elder client, whether the client is at home or in a residential facility.
When should I plan?
The sooner, the better. If you are helping a parent or other loved one plan, then it is better to start before a problem arises. He or she can have input into how financial matters should be handled and what type of medical care he or she wants when the time comes.
If you are planning for yourself, you can outline your wishes well before they will need to be implemented. This can also put less stress on your children or loved ones because they will not have to make those decisions on your behalf. For help, contact our estate lawyer in Cary.
How do I approach my aging loved one?
If you have a parent who has reached 65 or older but does not have a plan in place, you may wonder how to talk to them about this important issue. You could approach him or her by saying that you have put an estate plan in place for yourself and think that it is a good idea for anyone who wants a say in how their affairs will be handled.
