A property settlement is an agreement that is entered by two spouses that are going through a divorce. This agreement offers details for the division of the assets that were owned together during the marriage.
Sometimes, property settlements can get ugly between divorcing spouses. Most property settlements are taken care of during mediation. However, it’s possible that the settlements might need to be resolved in court, for one reason or another. Whether it be not seeing eye to eye or difficulty coming up with a post-divorce budget, mediation may not be an option.
It is suggested that you work with your spouse to come up with a financial plan for both parties so that when the time to make the divorce official comes, you’re both able to move on, financially, without issues.
